GENERAL
What is 7Dead?
What are the official game accounts?
Do you have a plurk emote?
Is the game private?
Why are network and logs combined?
Is there a game discord?
7Dead is a panfandom jamjar roleplaying game set in the city of 7, a cyperpunk-themed city that changes based on which of the 7 deadly sins and 7 deadly virtues has flourished the most in the hearts of the citizens.
What are the official game accounts?
7dead | IC Logs/network
7deadooc | OOC community
7deadmemes | Meme community
sevendeadlies | Mod plurk
Do you have a plurk emote?
If anyone would like to make alternate emotes feel free to do so and we will happily add them. None of us had a calling in life for making plurk emotes.
Is the game private?
Our game is public in the sense that anyone can apply to join. Our game is private in the sense that7dead and
7deadooc are locked communities.
Why are network and logs combined?
We wanted to cut down on communities as much as possible. There are tags in the community for network and log posts and we ask that players try to remember to use them as much as possible. We additionally have tags for open and closed posts although we do request that players consider doing closed posts in their inboxes on character journals.
Is there a game discord?
No. We will not be running an official game discord and ask that no unofficial game discord be made. The moderator team would prefer to focus on running the game itself rather than moderating an active chat.

If the districts correspond to vice & virtue pairs does my character have to live in the district for their pair?
7dead takes place in the city of 7, a floating technological metropolis that seems to be suspended in the midst of an infinite void of space. The city of 7 is divided into seven more or less even wedges centered around a huge iridescent multi-colored sphere at the center known as the Amplitheater. Each district corresponds with one vice & virtue pair: 1 - Pride & Humility, 2 - Greed & Charity, 3 - Lust & Chastity, 4 - Envy & Gratitude, 5 - Gluttony & Temperance, 6 - Wrath & Patience, and 7 - Sloth & Diligence. You can read more about the city of 7 over here.
How do characters arrive?
Your character wakes to find themselves in the Amplitheater undergoing a soul-weighing ceremony. The Amplitheater sphere is actually what appears to be a huge virtual reality area of sorts where memories and thoughts come together to form different scenarios. Upon arrival characters will find themselves trapped in one of their most pivotal memories while vague figures standing just outside their perception of reality vote on the measure of their soul.
Was there pride or humility in this moment? Greed or charity? Lust or chastity? Envy or gratitude? Gluttony, temperance, wrath, patience, sloth, diligence...all the seven deadly vices and seven deadly virtues might be called out in turn until finally the character is released into the Amplitheater proper. The figures who had been casting judgement are made up of both NPCs and other characters and your character is free to cast votes against other characters as well.
Their final judgement won't come for some time, however. Until their judgement is finally decided their emblem will be an oddly shifting mark of colors much like the Amplitheater itself whose shape seems to shift from moment to moment.
Can my character be hurt in the Amplitheater?
Yes. While it does seem to be virtual reality in the sense it shifts monthly and occasionally throughout the month the Amplitheater is perhaps more precisely extra reality. Characters can be injured and even die within the Amplitheater.
Can they take things out of the Amplitheater?
Occasionally! We will periodically note if this is possible as an event freebie in our event logs. Otherwise it is always possible through our AC rewards system. This applies to items, clothes, animals, plants, etc. that can be found in the Amplitheater during events.
Is there a network?
Yes. Characters will find that on whatever wrist or limb feels most comfortable for them there is a clear crystalline bracelet. This bracelet can project video, audio, and text posts. There are speech to text and text to speech accommodations and whatever else one could reasonably expect from advanced technology to help those who can't see or hear.
Can my character remove the bracelet?
They absolutely can. Removing the bracelet also removes the translation effects it has, however. Everyone is speaking in their native language in 7 and the bracelets allow characters to hear everyone else as though they're speaking in the same tongue. Remove it and your character will hear everyone speaking their natural native languages and will only understand them if they know those languages themselves.
Can my character die?
Yes. Characters who die will lose one important memory, ability, or sense of their choosing which can later be regained through our ac rewards as well as receive a temporary death penalty to be agreed upon by the player and the moderator team. Characters will re-arrive in the Amplitheater.
So how do events work?
While there will be various other prompts on event posts the "meat" of each event will be a soul-weighing ceremony at the Amplitheater every month. While the Amplitheater occasionally draws in new people and forces them to be weighed its main function at least once per month is to put on a grand story that the citizens of 7 enter and participate in so they can experience what each soul in the story goes through to better judge them.
As an example one month the Amplitheater may put on a production of, say, Sleeping Beauty. Various roles will be available for characters to take on as they explore the world the Amplitheater has created with special abilities granted to each citizen based on either their role or their vice & virtue pair. At the end of the story characters cast down their judgement as to what vices and virtues the Amplitheater characters were guilty of.
Why should my character participate in this?
The city of 7 gets most of its power from the soul-weighing ceremony. In the time leading up to a new ceremony (regularly on the 5th of the month with our event posts) the city will start to go into power saving mode if it happens to be running low, or certain features might not work as well. Most of the citizens feel that powering up the floating space city they're stuck on is a better plan than letting it power down entirely but your character doesn't have to join in if they're fine not getting a power allotment or credits.
You said most of its power, not all?
Correct. The mere act of participating in any vice or virtue will actually let the city store up power...for whichever district the act was related to, at least. This is where our vice & virtue submissions comes in! You can submit any thread with at least five comments from you which involve characters indulging in a vice or virtue. It does not have to be the vice and virtue pair to which they or their thread partner is assigned and we are very open to interpretation of the vices and virtues.
These submissions are what determine which half of a vice and virtue pair is currently in power and will effect our event prompts from month to month. You are required to submit at least one thread to this system per month as part of our AC (a thread used for AC may also be used for your vice & virtue submission).
ICly participating in any vice or virtue act (by wide interpretation) will net a character credits to their account (though significantly fewer than participating in Amplitheater events) as well as being added to the tally for that specific vice or virtue for the month. OOCly submitting these threads will net you 1 ac rewards point per submission which can then be used at our ac rewards page.
Does my character have to intend to submit a vice or virtue to do so?
Nope! While you pretty much have to intend to participate in the Amplitheater to be part of the monthly Soul-Weighing ceremony - unless someone helpfully shoves you inside the Amplitheater as it's happening? - just the act of acting on a vice or virtue is what is needed to icly submit something. Obviously for us to count it on the ooc side you do have to submit it, but we're only asking for a minimum of one per month. You don't have to submit every thread if you don't want to.
The vice and virtue submissions are screened, why?
We'll unscreen them monthly after we finish our tally. They're screened to start with just because we think it's more fun to leave an element of guessing which vice or virtue might be in power the following month. We'll also be providing the exact tally in our monthly plotting posts if you don't feel like going through the unscreened comments later to see for yourself.
Are there NPCs?
Yes. The populace of 7 is made up of people who arrived the same way your character did at some point in time. The makeup of the populace is therefore pretty much any species you could find through applicable media, although none of the NPCs will be firmly identifiable as being from the same world/time period as PCs. NPCs can be made up and used by players as they see fit. Just use general sense and don't create an all-powerful dictator or something game-changing.
Are there any important NPCs?
Sort of. The moderator team wants to minimize how much we'd be doing NPC threads, so generally speaking in 7 you can find important groups of NPCs. You can read about these on the setting page where each district write up will list out any important groups/entities to be aware of. These groups shift in power based on whether the Vice or Virtue of that district is currently the one in power based on vice & virtue submissions.
If the districts correspond to vice & virtue pairs does my character have to live in the district for their pair?
Nope. Characters are free to look for lodgings in whichever district most suits them whether or not they belong to the pair that controls it.
It isn't uncommon for NPCs to live outside of their own paired districts at times although a higher percentage do tend to stick to where they were sorted. No one will remark on it if characters choose otherwise, though.
VICES & VIRTUES
Why is it the seven deadly vices instead of sins?
Why are the virtues also deadly?
Okay, so what exactly are the groups here?
How does it effect things?
What is the emblem on their body?
Are there any other guidelines for emblems?
So they can be anywhere on my character's body?
Anything else to know about the emblems?
How are characters sorted into vices & virtues?
Why can't I choose my own?
But if they're chosen by votes based on my character's memory and actions, wouldn't this other one make more sense?
Lust exists, does this game allow sex?
Does my character HAVE to have sex if they're in Lust/Chastity?
Are Vices looked down upon?
We like the alliteration of vice & virtue. That's it.
Why are the virtues also deadly?
7dead is about vices and virtues being taken to their extremes - good and bad. Any vice and any virtue in moderation can be a good thing - it's the excess that usually does people in. So, deadly vices and deadly virtues.
Okay, so what exactly are the groups here?
As described in the setting section there are seven vice/virtue "pairs". Pride/Humility, Greed/Charity, Lust/Chastity, Envy/Gratitude, Gluttony/Temperance, Wrath/Patience, and Sloth/Diligence. You can read more about those vices and virtues over here.
The cliff notes version is that every character will be sorted into one vice/virtue pair upon acceptance and this sorting will effect their time in game.
How does it effect things?
The vice/virtue pair given to the character is the judgement wrought on them through their soul-weighing. This judgement leaves an emblem on their body that matches the vice/virtue of which they were considered most guilty by the sinners and saints of 7.
The character will feel elation and comfort when participating in acts that match their vice/virtue and feel more drawn to them. It is possible for them to be drawn entirely to one side over the other - we do leave that up to the player in question. Additionally, events will periodically grant temporary power sets to each vice/virtue pair. There are also certain abilities that come inherently with your pair, which you can read about over here.
What is the emblem on their body?
Each vice/virtue pair is associated with a symbol and color. As long as those are incorporated into the emblem you're free to imagine your character being marked up with whatever little design floats your boat. These emblems will alter depending on whether your character has done more acts towards their pair's vice or virtue. The symbols & colors are:Pride/Humility: ☆ Pride is a darker blue and an empty star. ★ Humility is a pastel blue and a filled star.
Greed/Charity: ◆ Greed is a darker yellow and a filled diamond. ◇ Charity is a pastel yellow and an empty diamond.
Lust/Chastity: ♡ Lust is a darker pink and an empty heart. ♥ Chastity is a pastel pink and a filled heart.
Envy/Gratitude: □ Envy is a darker green and an empty square. ■ Gratitude is a pastel green and a filled square.
Gluttony/Temperance: ◦ Gluttony is a darker orange and an empty circle. • Temperance is a pastel orange and a filled circle.
Wrath/Patience: 🕇 Wrath is a darker red and a filled cross. 🕆 Patience is a pastel red and an empty cross.
Sloth/Diligence: ▵ Sloth is a darker purple and an empty triangle. ▴ Diligence is a pastel purple and a filled triangle.
Are there any other guidelines for emblems?
As long as the emblem is at least the size of a quarter and in a location that is sometimes visible, no. It should of course include the symbol and alternate color/symbol based on which side of their pair they have committed more acts in favor of but you're free to go wild with designs or placement otherwise.
So they can be anywhere on my character's body?
Mostly yes. An eyeball is a solid yes even though you close your eyes sometimes because it can be visible off and on. On your character's spleen is a no unless they're for some reason skinless.
Anything else to know about the emblems?
Occasionally the base mark will glow with a technicolor light. This happens especially when the character is participating in acts of their vice and virtue pair but can happen at other times as well.
How are characters sorted into vices & virtues?
The groups are mod assigned. We do allow players to opt out of up to two vice/virtue pairs per character application. This gives us at least five to choose from. The exception to this is applications for characters below 15 who we will be automatically opting out of Lust/Chastity but still allowing to opt out of usual two chosen vice/virtue pairs, meaning they will effectively have three opt-outs.
Why can't I choose my own?
We want to keep the groups as even as we can. We do have a section on the application for players to list out what they'd like in order or to list what ideas they have for certain pairs but we cannot guarantee that you will get your top choice. We'll do our best but please understand we only allow the two opt outs and you might get anything else besides those.
But if they're chosen by votes based on my character's memory and actions, wouldn't this other one make more sense?
Ah, you've found the answer already, though! Characters are judged based on the NPCs and current PCs of 7 (icly - oocly it's still all the Moderator team) and the truth of life is that not everyone votes in the same way or even in a way that makes sense. Some people will vote for funny names on ballots, some will vote in a pattern, some will just vote for their favorite thing. There is a wide margin for human (and inhuman!) error in this system. Your character is free to disagree with what they were judged most guilty of, vice or virtue, but they do have to live with the results.
Lust exists, does this game allow sex?
Yes. While as stated we do allow a wide window for interpretation of vices and virtues we do understand lust is obviously going to often be interpreted as, well...lust! Sex is permitted in game and some lust-themed prompts may lean into it. We have three rules for sex in-game:1) Characters involved in sex scenes must be 15 or older. We will additionally not be sorting any character below the age of 15 into Lust/Chastity.
2) Please warn for sex scenes in either the warnings section of a log or in the comment header where it starts.
3) Avoid rape/pregnancy/abortion plots and respect any boundaries and preferences given by other players.
Does my character HAVE to have sex if they're in Lust/Chastity?
No, absolutely not. The wide interpretation can make this into lust for [something other than sex] very easily! Or your character can lean into the chastity angle. We are very open to any interpretation of things. We do not expect every Sloth/Diligence character to be a narcoleptic mess or anything because Sloth! We want players to feel free to be reasonably creative here. As long as you're sticking to the general vibes of your vice/virtue set in terms of effects we are genuinely happy to see you interpret it however you like.
Are Vices looked down upon?
No, not really. While those who follow Vices more closely are sometimes colloquially called sinners and those who follow Virtues are known as saints it isn't a widely held belief that vices are bad and virtues are good in 7. Conflict between the NPCs of each district does manifest as vice versus virtue in that district but it isn't about good or evil.
And even then not every vice and virtue pair has conflict in their district. District 3 - Lust and Chastity - has groups which generally get along well no matter whether the vice or virtue of the district is in control. In District 6 the devotees of Patience have no quarrel with the followers of Wrath. While some districts do have more solid tensions - District 4's Envidols and Thankfools do not get along, nor do District 5's Vendingmacs and Rationals - no one is going to call your character evil and depraved simply for having more vice than virtue. No one will call your character a goody two-shoes for having more virtue than vice.
ACTIVITY
What are the activity check requirements?
What are the hiatus and strike policies?
I failed AC, now what?
Is there an AC rewards system?
Our activity requirements are 10 comments each month across at least two and no more than three threads.
These threads may be log or network and either on our7dead community or in character inboxes. We also allow threads to be from our TDMs in TDM months from the community
7deadmemes. We do not differentiate between network and log comments for AC.
Threads must have been started in the month they are submitted for.
We also require at least one vice or virtue submission per month. Threads used for comment AC may also be used to submit for a vice or virtue.
What are the hiatus and strike policies?
We allow one hiatus every three months which can be submitted for on our hiatus page. A hiatus exempts you from AC for the month. If you have an emergency and require more than that please contact the moderator team. We are happy to work with you so long as you communicate with us.
We do not permit strikes. If you fail AC you will be swept and must wait at least one month to reapply. This includes failure to submit AC as our AC post is open for the entire month.
I failed AC, now what?
You may reapply after one month has passed.
Is there an AC rewards system?
Yes, we do offer AC rewards. While the main way to earn points is through vice & virtue submissions we will offer points for event participation in non-TDM months and for both event participation and tagging TDM toplevels during TDM months. We also award points for player-run plots.
APPLICATIONS
Who can I apply for?
Do you accept CRAU?
Do you accept duplicates?
How many characters can I play?
Are there any other limitations?
Do you allow challenge applications?
Will my character be humanized?
Will my character have their items?
Will my character have their powers?
My character has no superpowers, can they get some?
My character has a weird diet, what happens?
My character is dead, gravely injured, or deathly ill, how is that handled?
My character is possessed, how does that work?
Can my character have their pet/magical companion/etc?
We accept canon characters and original characters. We do not accept fandom AUs, non-fictional historical characters, or fandom OCs. We do accept tabletop OCs. We accept one malleable protagonist per canon.
Do you accept CRAU?
We do not accept CRAU characters.
Do you accept duplicates?
We do not accept duplicates of the same character from the same canon. We will accept duplicates when they are from different canons and are significantly different from one another. Lego Batman and Batman could both be applied for, as an example, but the LA Avatar: The Last Airbender Aang could not coexist with the cartoon version of Aang.
How many characters can I play?
You may play a total of four characters. You may reserve and apply for two characters at a time. Once you have two characters in game you must pass one AC check with them both in order to apply for further characters.
Are there any other limitations?
Players may only apply for one character per franchise. We do not currently have any cast or franchise caps but may implement caps as needed for the health of the game. We do not have a player cap.
Do you allow challenge applications?
We do permit application challenges if both applicants have reserved the character. We view reserves as a reservation to our processing the application rather than reserving the slot in order to best allow players across different time zones to have an equal chance at characters.
Will my character be humanized?
No.
Will my character have their items?
Characters may have the clothes they arrived in as well as up to three items of your choice. Further items from home may be purchased through our AC rewards.
Will my character have their powers?
Yes. Game-breaking powers or any powers you would prefer to remain off may be nerfed, however. Your character will otherwise arrive with their powers intact.
My character has no superpowers, can they get some?
Yes, through our AC Rewards system and game events. Additionally, all characters will start out with access to two minor abilities OR one medium ability of the player's choice upon acceptance if they have powers in canon. If you character does not have any canon powers they will choose four minor abilities OR two medium abilities OR two minor abilities and one medium ability upon acceptance.
My character has a weird diet, what happens?
Anything you could find in a regular city you can find in 7. Characters will be able to search for and find whatever they absolutely need to survive.
My character is dead, gravely injured, or deathly ill, how is that handled?
They will arrive at the Amplitheater exactly as they left canon. If they're dead they will find themselves seemingly alive again at whatever level of health is preferable to you. If they're gravely injured or deathly ill it's the same answer - characters will at least be able to move around enough to go through being weighed and then will be able to seek out additional medical help.
My character is possessed, how does that work?
If this is a one-off episode type of thing along the lines of Sailor Moon being possessed by the villain of the week we do not allow that to be applied for. If this is a regular character thing that takes place over a longer arc or their entire canon we allow you to apply for your character as possessed. Just be sure to cover it in your application.
Can my character have their pet/magical companion/etc?
Generally yes. We do ask that players with summons or multiple magical creatures along the lines of Pokémon or Personas cap themselves to six total summons, though. We expect those summons to adhere to the "nerf or cap any game-breaking powers" rules so keep that in mind.

1. when choosing vices or virtues, is it possible for this selection to be RNG'ed?
2. a canon-specific question for Persona 5 characters in particular, but Akira's weapons (knife and gun) only become sharp/have damaging ammo in the Metaverse (the cognitive world that is projected onto the real world, which can be visited through the use of a special app that Akira and the rest of his group have on their cell phones). if he were to arrive with them in 7, would they be usable as they are in the Metaverse, or would they function as model toys as they do in the real world?
3. does the bracelet also translate written words?
4. how are network usernames chosen? are characters/their players allowed to choose their own, or is one chosen for them by mods/npcs?
no subject
1) If you mean to be sorted into, you can absolutely ask us to randomize you!
2) We would leave this up to you! If you want them to always be usable they can be or if you only want them usable in, say, the Amplitheater that's also fine! We know some canon based powers require specific areas on a technicality like Superman only actually being strong when there's a yellow sun, but we want people to be able to play with the full extent of their powers (when not gamebreaking) even in those cases. So fudge details if you have to!
3. It does, yes!
4. Usernames are chosen by the characters. The network functions as your usual social media site so they're locked into that after they make it unless they purchase a rename token (icly handwaved) or make a new account. They can change their display name whenever they like, though! If you can't decide on a username there is an option to ICly randomize one. The mods are happy to help there if anyone really wants something silly.

Can these items have magical (or otherwise special) properties of their own, or are characters limited to mundane items only? Does it affect the answer if the character in question already has some manner of special power? (e.g., Are magical items limited to mundane characters for power balance reasons or the like.)

This is true regardless of whether a character has powers or not. Hope that helps!

Yes, communication devices do allow for filters! Any messages sent to character inboxes can be assumed to be filtered but you're free to mark messages on network posts as private as well!

The infrastructure to the city seems to be more regulated and is run by the robots and other inorganic life found in the city. These NPCs ensure the background processes of the city run smoothly regardless of who is in charge.
There aren't standardized laws across the whole city. The only thing that everyone can agree on is that Amplitheater participation is a good thing. If you don't do the work at least some of the time characters will eventually be shunned by the city NPCs. Thieving and the like is handled on a District by District and individual basis. Many shopkeepers hire Wrath devotees as security. Many of the NPCs who have been in 7 longer than the PCs are competent combatants.

I haven’t seen this addressed anywhere, and it’s a bit of a different question (or two) so I’m not sure if it belongs here or not so feel free to remove this. If a member of the community wanted to lure new
dreamvoteesplayers into checking out the game by posting an advertisement in another community for such things:1. Is that allowed?
2. And if so, is there a mod approved option available for community members to put out there?

Would it be possible that the city somehow has kept that connection between rider and dragon so there is no pain and Violet gets to keep her signet and lesser magic? But she can’t talk to her dragon. It be like the dragon is there and yet at the same time not?
Ooooooor Tairn comes with her? He is a HUGE black dragon. Like she mentions that Violet barely reaches his ankle and she is 5'2". Though he could be his own character himself.
I’m open to suggestions and happy to work with you to figure out how this would work.
no subject
The stipulation is "We expect those summons to adhere to the "nerf or cap any game-breaking powers" rules so keep that in mind." For this, we would probably say the dragon should be shrunk in size at least in the City but could potentially be larger in the Amplitheater!
In terms of "he could be his own character" we assume he might speak and have a personality? We would consider this to be a partner such as a Digimon or Kero from Cardcaptor Sakura in this case! While the character could hypothetically be applied for we don't consider it to be something that is likely to occur and are happy to allow players to bring in those companions. Just be sure to cover the companion personality and such in your application!
We hope that helps, let us know if we need to clarify or if we misunderstood!

Emet is going to try and research the history of the city. Would that be something he could do either with asking NPCs or finding books that have info about it? I didn't see a mention of the library on the settings page.
Additionally, if there is a chance for it he might be willing to "convince" an npc to set up a library in one of the districts to distribute info, he would do so. Would prolly be very small and have books that Game Characters write or maybe NPCs. But I'll cross that bridge when I get to it!
no subject
Some residents who have since disappeared or who are still around have written down their own experiences and many of the NPCs are fine with speaking about them as well though. No one in the City currently seems to be from the start of it and no records indicate when it began. It's just a long cycle of people coming and eventually disappearing. Some residents have died and not revived while in the City however.

Several of the nicer districts do have lockups for lighter crimes but in every district but Wrath-6 the general reaction to murder is execution and throwing someone in the Amplitheater when they revive and making certain other districts are aware of the issue.
Most NPCs who enjoy killing have learned to stick to Wrath and keep PVP to the Amplitheater.

You're free to make up bands and groups as you see fit. Players are permitted and encouraged to make up NPCs as they like.
