7 DEADLY VICES & VIRTUES.
7 DEADLY VICES & VIRTUES
Please keep in mind we strongly encourage players to be creative with their interpretation of vices and virtues in 7dead. While we're writing up what the vices and virtues are for reference in game we are never going to say you can only stick to one interpretation or must follow our examples closely! As long as the vibe is right you're golden. Follow your bliss. The negative extremes of each vice and virtue will be played with throughout the game and being sorted into any pair will make your character more susceptible to the potential extremes of the vice and virtue pair you received - but how you play that out is up to you.

PRIDE & HUMILITY
Characters who are sorted to Pride/Humility will be more susceptible to feelings of both pride and humility and can find themselves falling prey to extremes from each if they aren't careful. Participating in acts of pride or humility will give them bursts of pleasure and energy and additional credits compared to participating in acts of other vices and virtues which will simply net them credits. They can even heal their own wounds through more extreme acts of pride or humility.
Pride is at its best a positive feeling of pleasure or satisfaction that comes from one's own achievements, qualities, or possessions - or the achievements, qualities, or possessions of someone close to the person experiencing a sense of pride. Positive interpretations of pride in moderation could be simple pleasure in a job well done or the secure knowledge of one's own abilities. When taken to a negative extreme it can often display as an excessive love of one's own achievements or excellence and a dismissive inability to acknowledge the worth of others.
Humility is at its best the ability to acknowledge ones own shortcomings and flaws alongside ones better qualities and to also see and acknowledge other people's strengths and abilities. At its negative extreme humility may display as the inability to see ones own self-worth and as excessive self-deprecation and submissiveness towards the abilities of others.
Characters sorted into Pride & Humility are marked by a star emblem somewhere on their body. When they have committed more acts of pride than humility recently the mark is a deeper blue and the star is an empty outline. When they have committed more acts of humility than pride recently the mark is a lighter blue and the star is a filled shape. This emblem can be anywhere on the character's body so long as it is occasionally visible and is at least the size of a quarter. Their emblem can be as intricate or simple as you would like so long as the base mark and color are incorporated. Occasionally the base mark will glow with a technicolor light. This happens especially when the character is participating in acts of their vice and virtue pair but can happen at other times as well.
Inherent powers granted from the emblem of Pride & Humility can vary. They should all be based upon either the vice and virtue themselves or the elements of water and ice and can be chosen by the player. We ask that you choose two minor abilities OR one medium ability upon acceptance if your character already has canon powers. If you character does not have any canon powers we will ask that you choose four minor abilities OR two medium abilities OR two minor abilities and one medium ability. Your character will have the ability to gain more abilities through our ac rewards and in-game events.
A minor ability would be considered something along the lines of the ability to manipulate a glass of water or to instantly boil your tea. A medium ability would be along the lines of manipulating up to a bucket of water or creating a shield of ice. A major ability would be along the lines of manipulating blood or similar liquids. There are more examples of minor/medium/major on our ac rewards page but we don't want our players to be beholden to specific list examples as long as they are on element theme/vibe.

GREED & CHARITY
Characters who are sorted to Greed/Charity will be more susceptible to feelings of both greed and charity and can find themselves falling prey to extremes from each if they aren't careful. Participating in acts of greed or charity will give them bursts of pleasure and energy and additional credits compared to participating in acts of other vices and virtues which will simply net them credits. They can even heal their own wounds through more extreme acts of greed or charity.
Greed is at its best a desire for betterment and more than one has. At its negative extreme - how it is admittedly more often seen - it is a selfish desire that consumes and never ends for more, more, more without regard as to what one might need to do in order to get more or without interest in how much that might leave for others.
Charity is at its best the act of giving unto others without asking for anything in return. Sharing unto others can also qualify here. At its negative extreme charity could be considered to be giving everything away to others or giving too much or what one cannot afford to give - life and limb, dear items they cannot replace, and so on - and never expecting anything in return. A well eventually does run empty, doesn't it?
Characters sorted into Greed & Charity are marked by a diamond emblem somewhere on their body. When they have committed more acts of greed than charity recently the mark is a deeper yellow and the diamond is an filled shape. This happens especially when the character is participating in acts of their vice and virtue pair but can happen at other times as well.
Inherent powers granted from the emblem of Greed & Charity can vary. They should all be based upon either the vice and virtue themselves or the elements of light and illusions and can be chosen by the player. We ask that you choose two minor abilities OR one medium ability upon acceptance if your character already has canon powers. If you character does not have any canon powers we will ask that you choose four minor abilities OR two medium abilities OR two minor abilities and one medium ability. A minor ability would be considered something along the lines of the ability to create small sparks of lights or to craft a minor illusion in the air. A medium ability would be along the lines of crafting a minor moving illusion that seems real or blinding someone briefly with a light burst. A major ability would be along the lines of a full-body illusion that moves with the character or for a greed example maybe the ability to create gems out of thin air. There are more examples of minor/medium/major on our ac rewards page but we don't want our players to be beholden to specific list examples as long as they are on element theme/vibe.

LUST & CHASTITY
Characters who are sorted to Lust/Chastity will be more susceptible to feelings of both lust and chastity and can find themselves falling prey to extremes from each if they aren't careful. Participating in acts of lust or chastity will give them bursts of pleasure and energy and additional credits compared to participating in acts of other vices and virtues which will simply net them credits. They can even heal their own wounds through more extreme acts of lust or chastity.
Lust at its best can have some overlap with both greed and gluttony - it is a very strong desire for something. While we understand the traditional "something" is sexual at 7dead we will define/allow for lust to be a desire for any given thing - not specifically sexual. The common definition will also come into play, however, particularly for District 3 when Lust is in power. At the negative extreme lust might display as desire without consideration for other aspects of life, or to excess.
Chastity has traditional definitions opposite the sexual definition of lust and while we will consider that an acceptable interpretation we do encourage a wider interpretation of all our vices and virtues. Chastity at its best can be considered to be a pure desire or love of or for something. Perhaps a hobby or interest the character particularly enjoys or some item they hold dear in an intensely devoted way. Taken to a negative extreme it might display as judgement towards others in how they interact with a hobby, item, interest, etc - or in the character holding themselves to extreme standards.
Characters sorted into Lust & Chastity are marked by a heart emblem somewhere on their body. When they have committed more acts of lust than chastity recently the mark is a deeper pink and the heart is an empty outline. A minor ability would be considered something along the lines of the ability to throw your voice or call up a small breeze that could move maybe a leaf-sized object. A medium ability would be along the lines of calling up a bigger breeze that could briefly move a person or altering your voice to sound like someone else's. A major ability would be along the lines of a charm spell (for a lust example) or flight. Participating in acts of envy or gratitude will give them bursts of pleasure and energy and additional credits compared to participating in acts of other vices and virtues which will simply net them credits. They can even heal their own wounds through more extreme acts of envy or gratitude.
Envy at its most positive might be seen as a desire for something others have that spurns one into bettering themselves in positive ways in order to gain those things. At its most negative it might display as discontentment and resentment aroused by a desire for what others have and someone experiencing that extreme might act to take what they envy others for or might be excessively negative about what they do not have.
Gratitude at its most positive is being thankful for and appreciative of others in your life or things that you have or receive. At its most negative extreme gratitude might display as an excess of thanking others or believing yourself to owe what you have to other people and to believe you need to pay it back even at great negative cost to yourself.

Gluttony is traditionally defined as a desire specifically for food. While we will be playing into that at times, as with Lust we do strongly encourage players to interpret this however would work best for their character or situation. At its best gluttony could be considered to be an intense desire for something along the lines of lust, greed, or envy - but perhaps more focused on the act of actually attaining and indulging in the desired thing. At its negative extreme gluttony might display as indulging too much in whatever the character wants with no thought to moderation to their own detriment.
Temperance at its best could be seen as self-restraint and self-control. At its negative extreme it might display as self-policing to extremes and forcing oneself to go without or accept less even when that wouldn't be necessary or healthy for the character.

Perhaps it's positive because the person can relax and not stress out or perhaps they understand they need to take it slow at times. At its negative extreme sloth might display as excessive laziness or a lack of willingness to make any sort of effort.
Diligence at its best would be careful and persistent work and effort to any given task or cause. At its negative extreme it might display as the character never taking time for themselves or slowing down and instead working themselves to death.
Characters sorted into Sloth & Diligence are marked by a triangle emblem somewhere on their body. When they have committed more acts of sloth than diligence recently the mark is a deeper purple and the triangle is an empty outline. When they have committed more acts of diligence than sloth recently the mark is a lighter purple and the triangle is a filled shape.
Inherent powers granted from the emblem of Sloth & Diligence can vary. They should all be based upon either the vice and virtue themselves or the elements of shadows and dreams and can be chosen by the player.
A minor ability would be considered something along the lines of the ability to manipulate the shape of the shadow of a small object. A medium ability would be along the lines of manipulating someone else's shadow or being able to call up a shadow shield. A major ability would be along the lines of traveling through shadows or dream-walking. There are more examples of minor/medium/major on our ac rewards page but we don't want our players to be beholden to specific list examples as long as they are on element theme/vibe.
Sloth might at its best be considered to be an easy nature or someone who takes things as they come without hurrying.
