SETTING

BASICS

Welcome to the city of 7, a floating technological metropolis that seems to be suspended in the midst of an infinite void of space. The city is divided into seven more or less even wedges centered around a huge iridescent multi-colored sphere at the center known as the Amplitheater. There are no true physical boundaries between the districts but they are divided by the main color of structures within the district and also by power grid. While all districts tend to be low on power by the fifth of the month, districts that have received more acts of their vice or virtue have more power and are more functional while those who have received less are more on the fritz.

Despite machinery and technology having more sway than nature in 7 there are some natural features to be found. The most prominent is the river that forms a lake in District 1 and then cuts through Districts 7 and 6 to end at District 5. The water falls off the city into space although it never seems to run low.

The city is covered by a translucent dome made of faintly visible hexagonal panels. Through it the stars and eternity of space can be seen. Day and night are cycled as a lightened and darkened overlay of the panels while weather is simulated throughout the city based on district. It isn't uncommon for one district to be having rain and another to be having a clear day. Any extreme weather changes will be noted in plotting and event posts.

Due to the large size of the city there are various means of transportation aside from walking. There's a large network of subway cars with complicated rail changeovers, there are cars, and there are hovercars. There are some boats that sail on the river and lake although they steer clear of the waterfalls.

Each district individually changes depending on whether their vice or virtue is in power. The below write ups will outline what each version of a district will look like depending on whether the vice or virtue had more submissions. For example when more threads are submitted for Pride than Humility, Pride will have control of District 1 and the write-up for Pride is how District 1 will look. If Humility had more submissions the write-up for Humility will be how District 1 looks. Every monthly plotting post will announce which vices and virtues hold power currently so that players can reference the setting page accordingly. The current district controls are:

1: PRIDE | 2: CHARITY | 3: CHASTITY | 4: GRATITUDE
5: TEMPERANCE | 6: WRATH | 7: DILIGENCE
District control history found here. This will be updated whenever there's a changeover so players who are backtagging or trying to reference past events can see what the district layout was at the time.

AMPLITHEATER

The huge iridescent multi-colored sphere at the heart of the city of 7 swirls with the colors of its seven districts, the hues darkening or lightening in accordance to whether the Vice or Virtue is in power for any given district. The sphere is massive and able to be seen from pretty much any outdoor location in the city. The consistency of the sphere is like a slightly more tangible soap bubble with some give before characters push through into the sphere. It cannot be broken or popped but it can be exited and entered with little difficulty.

From outside the Amplitheater nothing happening inside can be seen. As soon as characters step through the barrier they will find themselves seemingly in another world. What that world looks like depends on the monthly soul-weighing ceremony, although past stages can be called up with a certain amount of effort and sacrificed energy.

Past Amplitheater locations will be recorded here once the setting has changed over.

DISTRICT 1

PRIDE

District 1 is in a state of eternal winter when Pride is in control. The lake and river and tributaries all freeze over although the fish that live within them can sometimes be seen moving beneath the ice. Robot-drawn sleds and ice-skates are a common mode of transportation in Pride's District 1 as well as being a common hobby within the district. Ice skating is considered to be the highest form of art in District 1 when Pride reigns.

Portions of the river are covered in large aquarium and attraction like buildings where fish can be seen and unfrozen but still cold water can be swum in. There are also some hot springs to be found scattered around the district. The streets of District 1 are kept pristine when Pride is in control and anyone who tries to destroy this sense of perfection is heavily shunned and disliked.

The often-falling snowflakes of District 1 are in odd shapes. When examined closely they're actual shapes...dogs and flowers and books...but you can also see the brief outline of people you knew and things you once saw in your past before they immediately melt away leaving your character doubting themselves.

So long as it fits the theme and vibe of the District players are free to make up businesses, attractions, or notable (player-started) groups. To submit for District 1 locations comment here.

PEOPLE TO KNOW

While many citizens of District 1 live out their day to day lives in an ordinary fashion and only take heed of the Amplitheater and the Vices and Virtues during the Soul-Weighing ceremonies or when they require more credits, there are those who are more strongly devoted to their Vice or Virtue. For Pride that comprises one group.

PERFECTIONISTAS: A group of Pride devotees who dedicate themselves entirely to perfection and beauty. This is not only their own perfection and beauty but also that of their district and anyone who comes within it. They hold themselves and others to extremely high standards and offer criticism to those who cannot reach those standards. As a group they ruthlessly enforce the beauty standards of District 1 in terms of keeping the streets clean and the walls of their buildings clear of graffiti or even natural wear. No district is ever as pristine as District 1 under the sway of Pride. When Humility is in control the Perfectionistas tend to try to maintain the beauty of the district but they have much less influence when their Vice isn't in control.

HUMILITY

District 1 is in a state of eternal summer when Humility is in control. The weather is warm and pleasant and there are various fish and animals to be found around in both the organic and mechanical varieties. There are also many aquatic plants, some of which exist aboveground on a gigantic scale. Floating throughout the air are holographic and mechanical jellyfish. The holographic versions will occasionally float through people or objects while the mechanical versions seem to be used as extremely slow and often confused messengers.

Much of the district is flooded when Humility is in control and there are many underwater walkways and subways where citizens can look out the windows or through the glass to see all sorts of alien or occasionally familiar creatures. Many of the businesses and attractions are on hovercraft on or above the water. The waterfall found at the edge of District 1 is hugely loud and beautiful as it falls off into space and there are several venues overlooking it.

So long as it fits the theme and vibe of the District players are free to make up businesses, attractions, or notable (player-started) groups. To submit for District 1 locations comment here.

JELLIES: A group of Humility devotees who believe that the jellyfish found in District 1 have achieved the peak of Humility and who endeavor to mimic the jellyfish. This means a great deal of meditation and wandering around at random as well as following the jellyfish about their tasks. They try to help any lost or stuck jellyfish which is a rather large problem when the jellyfish are not that smart. When Pride is in control of the district the Jellies usually wander around somewhat lost as the creatures of their devotion vanish whenever Pride takes control and Humility loses sway.

DISTRICT 2

GREED

When Greed is in control of District 2 the entire place is full of holographic advertisements, statues, and movies all projected into the air and on various platforms or even coming out of digital billboards. Occasionally those walking through District 2 or going about their business will be recorded and then projected. Sometimes you might find yourself walking beside your own hologram or running into the image of a friend who also dwells in 7. Sometimes there are even images of those who once dwelled in the city but have since disappeared from it.

All accommodation prices are much higher when Greed holds sway and as such many residents move to other districts when this happens or choose to live elsewhere and commute to work regardless of whether Greed or Charity is in control so they don't have to resituate themselves every time a change occurs.

There are multiple mega-casinos, arcades, movie theaters, and shopping malls in Greed's version of District 2. There are no locations characters can go where they aren't being sold something. Even the streets have hundreds of vending machines that sell almost anything imaginable from clothes to books to food to robotic parts. You can even buy human blood! The prices are rather high for everything in the district but as long as you're willing to commit acts of Greed you'll earn cash anyway...so why not spend it right after?

So long as it fits the theme and vibe of the District players are free to make up businesses, attractions, or notable (player-started) groups. To submit for District 2 locations comment here.

PEOPLE TO KNOW

For Greed that comprises one group.

GAMBLIARS: A group of Greed devotees who will do basically anything to make a quick buck. They'll sell whatever they own and whatever other people own and they firmly believe that money shouldn't belong to other people. It should belong to them. They're a group that isn't particularly loyal to one another unlike some of the other fellowships that can be found in the city of 7, but all of them are perfectly loyal to the Vice of Greed. The other main thing they do besides try to get anything and everything they want is to try to get others to commit acts of Greed as well so their Vice can hold eternal sway. Just come play one game with them...and don't think too hard about what happens if you lose. When Charity is in control the Gambliars take their activities to other Districts, choosing whichever has the most overlap with their beloved Greed at the time.

CHARITY

When Charity holds sway over District 2 all the buildings take on a pale yellow sheen that sometimes appears to be white. The holographic displays of Greed's version of District 2 are a thing of the past. Instead there are much fewer holographic shows projected mostly onto billboards and playing out movies and dramas. There is no advertising to be found and no one is selling anything...or if they are, it isn't for much.

There is free housing offered although the workers do caution anyone who stays there that it will only last as long as Charity is ahead. There are also many medical clinics to be found, and shops that offer either free items or very low prices, and meals provided cheap or free. Occasionally the locations will run out of what they offer, but they do try to make sure they give what they can to anyone who asks it of them.

For Charity that comprises one group.

CHARIMEDICS: A group of Charity devotees that accepts any member who can display competent medical ability or who is willing to learn. Their one rule for any member is that money cannot be accepted for their services although they do accept goods or the like given freely without being asked. This does mean that sometimes they have to work other jobs to make ends meet. Whether or not Greed is in control the Charimedics can be found in every district following their order's rules. There are clinics run by the Charimedics in most districts. They do not discriminate against anyone who comes into their clinics but they do insist that no violence be perpetrated within those doors. Citizens of 7 generally respect these clinics at neutral zones.

DISTRICT 3

LUST

When Lust is in control of District 3 there is music playing on every street and in every shop. The music varies in genre and volume but citizens can always feel the subtle beat of it beneath their feet regardless. There are frequent audio ads played as well which entice citizens to come into shops and buy or sell goods and services. In District 3 under the sway of Lust anything you could wish to have can be found.

There are many holographic blossoming trees to be found throughout Lust's District 3. Cherry blossom, Magnolia, Crabapple, and strange alien options that characters may or may not recognize. Flickering petals and flowers are constantly falling and fading away but the trees never seem to become bare.

PEOPLE TO KNOW

While many citizens of District 3 live out their day to day lives in an ordinary fashion and only take heed of the Amplitheater and the Vices and Virtues during the Soul-Weighing ceremonies or when they require more credits, there are those who are more strongly devoted to their Vice or Virtue. For Lust that comprises two groups.

SIRENS: A group of Lust devotees who utilize sound-based magic and technology in order to lure citizens of 7 to themselves and their activities. These vary from siren to siren - shops where you are compelled to buy are common but so too are hobby-based meetings you feel you must participate in. It is entirely possible to hear a tune on the streets of District 3 and find yourself led to a quilting circle where you are unable to leave until the meeting ends. There are also sexual instances of this power but those must be consensual and can be resisted. When Chastity is in power the Sirens' songs do not often utilize their lure and instead will occasionally float through the streets more as a joyous expression of music than anything with purpose.

ACCOMPANISTS: A group of Lust devotees whose main focus is fulfilling the desires of others. This may or may not come with a price depending on the Accompanist in question. The desires they fulfill can range from the ordinary to the less so. Playing a game of chess with someone, acting as their date to a function, reading a book to discuss it later with their patron and so on - as long as you desire it the Accompanists are willing to offer it up to you. Whenever Chastity is in power the Accompanists tend to stay in District 3 but turn their attention to fulfilling the needs of their Virtue-aligned District members by working for Chastity-aligned District 3 businesses and being more picky about what services they'll offer.

CHASTITY

When Chastity is in control of District 3 there are lanterns and kites to be found in the sky almost constantly depending on whether it is night or day. These sometimes float entirely free on the breeze that blows constantly through Chastity's District 3 but many times can be found being released or flown by the residents of District 3.

There are many hobby shops and groups to be found around District 3 when Chastity is in control. The holographic flowering trees that populate the district when Lust is in control are no longer holographic but are instead real flowering trees. The blossoms and petals of these trees fall constantly and float on the ever-present breeze but the trees do still seem to never become bare despite this. There are also airskiffs to be found all around the district - open-topped ships that go far up above the range of normal hovercraft.

For Chastity that comprises one group.

HOBBYISTS: A group of Chastity devotees who focus on one hobby or interest. There are many different smaller factions inside this group due to the variety of hobbies and interests represented overall, but these are your die-hard hobby fans: militant quilters, collectors, kite-flyers. Each minor group has an almost cultish devotion to their activity of choice and will invite people in and frequently plan activities for their hobby. They welcome anyone who wishes to join. When Lust is in control of the district the Hobbyists stay put and maintain their hobby shops and group meet-ups, although the Sirens occasionally help them lure in new members through song.

DISTRICT 4

ENVY

Envy's District 4 is a capitalistic place where everyone wants the best and newest things. Especially if someone else gets to them first. There are multiple shopping centers where there's always some new release and new version of whatever you might want. There are also many competitions aired on holographic screens throughout the District. These competitions tend to be along the lines of what you might find on reality television. Or alien reality television. Many devotees of Envy want nothing more than to be a vid-screen star...though it's hardly an easy task.

There are also many virtual reality arcades to be found throughout the district. Why would you want virtual reality when there's the Amplitheater, you ask? Well, the Amplitheater tends to have one big thing on and it takes a lot of effort to go to the older locations...so if you want, say, a uniquely coded experience for you alone or to your specifications you want to go to District 4. Many people will stream their virtual reality experiences on any of the various screens found throughout 7 or even to character devices.

So long as it fits the theme and vibe of the District players are free to make up businesses, attractions, or notable (player-started) groups. To submit for District 4 locations comment here.

PEOPLE TO KNOW

While many citizens of District 4 live out their day to day lives in an ordinary fashion and only take heed of the Amplitheater and the Vices and Virtues during the Soul-Weighing ceremonies or when they require more credits, there are those who are more strongly devoted to their Vice or Virtue. For Envy that comprises two groups.

ENVIDOLS: A group of Envy devotees dedicated to streaming. Most of them want to become famous or the best and while they do not exactly pursue Envy they do regularly participate in acts of it in order to try to keep District 4 under Envy control. They have rigorous internal rankings that they participate in and almost none of them trust one another. Wanting what they don't have is a way of life and it's hard to make it anywhere with the Envidols if you do not have the latest and greatest everything ever. When Gratitude is in control the Envidols continue streaming but their reach is limited only to anyone who joins their streams on purpose rather than being broadcast everywhere. They're always extremely bitter about it.

VREALISTS: A group of Envy devotees who are obsessed with virtual reality. They are near constantly hooked into various VR worlds that they're always playing and streaming in and for them the real world pales in comparison to the latest loot drop or special character skin. They're also huge devotees of and followers of the Amplitheater. The Amplitheater is basically the only thing that can draw the VRealists out of their virtual reality bubbles and into participating in the city of 7 on a larger scale. They work together more often than the Envidols do as they tend to form guilds within the games they choose to play but there are also solo players. When Gratitude is in control they tend to ignore that and continue playing their games.

GRATITUDE

Gratitude's District 4 is a far more cooperative place than the Envy version. While there are still many holographic streams they are all themed around putting others on display rather than the streamer themselves. Reality shows aired are less competitive and tend to be about displaying multiple people's accomplishments and treating them equally. The Envidols call this "boring".

The shopping malls are nowhere to be found but instead there is a focus on fixing anything broken and using what you have to the fullest. Things purchased from the small shops that pop up when Gratitude is in control tend to be built to last and don't mess around with new versions and fancy features. The virtual reality arcades are still active but there are no player rankings in anything any longer.

So long as it fits the theme and vibe of the District players are free to make up businesses, attractions, or notable (player-started) groups. To submit for District 4 locations comment here.

THANKFOOLS: A group of Gratitude devotees who firmly believe in making sure everyone else feels appreciated and supported. They vastly prefer the Gratitude version of District 4 and so engage in acts of Gratitude every day. They wait for people to hold open doors so they can thank them. They thank people for existing or doing minor acts that probably don't actually deserve a thanks, and they take thankfulness all the way around from sincerity to something forced...but the more extreme groups often have this issue. Whenever Envy is in control the Thankfools can be found in the comments sections and chats of every Envidol stream, thanking them for everything they do in a passive aggressive attempt to regain control. A Thankfool never stops smiling.

DISTRICT 5

GLUTTONY

Consumerism is a huge facet of Gluttony's version of District 5. There are eateries on every street alongside an absolute fleet of food hover-trucks. Much like Greed there are countless shopping malls and even more countless vending machines. There's a slight lean to food in District 5 when Gluttony holds sway but you can find just about anything you might want for sale as well. Unlike Greed, Gluttony isn't charging absolutely insane prices for everything. They're more reasonable but they also run out of stock a lot more often too.

The river that runs through District 5 and empties off the edge of the city is absolutely covered with floating shops and restaurants when Gluttony reigns. There's even a well-known hotel that floats on District 5's waters around this time. The fields that produce a good amount of the produce that works its way through 7 are present but there are some very expensive vineyards that only seem to exist when Gluttony is in control.

So long as it fits the theme and vibe of the District players are free to make up businesses, attractions, or notable (player-started) groups. To submit for District 5 locations comment here.

For Gluttony that comprises one group.

VENDINGMACS: A group of Gluttony devotees who have a devout love of the vending machines found throughout the city of 7. They'll often seek out "special edition" items in these machines. Often they'll buy out an entire machine and leave it empty until the robots of 7 refill it a short while later. They make consumerism into a fine art and encourage others to buy anything they want and take anything they want...to different levels depending on the individual doing the encouraging. When Temperance is in control the Vendingmacs tend to migrate to other districts as there are stricter limits on what they can buy when Gluttony isn't in control, but those who stay behind start up a brisk black market of every good you can think of...though it mostly is made up of vending machines purchases. And yes, they do all wear food-themed hats. It's a rule.

TEMPERANCE

Temperance's version of District 5 is heavily plant and growing focused. The river that flows through District 5 has more plants and growing things to be found in it and has a larger wildlife populace than it does when Gluttony holds sway and there are some small river craft that focus on occasionally fishing or making deliveries. There are many fields which offer up recreation and the basics that will become meals across the city of 7.

While there are still many vending machines to be found in Temperance's District 5 the name of the game is Temperance. There is a strict limit of how much any citizen can purchase in one day in District 5 and after they meet that limit they will find it hard to make any other purchases within 5 for that day...unless they buy something off the black market the Vendingmacs run.

For Temperance that comprises one group.

RATIONALS: A group of Temperance devotees who dedicate themselves to making certain overindulgences of Gluttony do not happen when Temperance holds sway - or even when they don't. They will occasionally set out to purchase everything from a vending machine before the Vendingmacs do just so they can't indulge in gluttony, which annoys absolutely everyone. The Vendingmacs obviously are mad because they can't purchase everything and then the rest of 7 just wants both groups to stop doing that. It can be argued that's not Temperance, but as with many of the splinter groups sometimes the logic can get a little bit worn thin and stretched out. On a more positive side the Rationals oversee and help with the shipments of food throughout 7 and are known to take that duty seriously. They also help grow and harvest the food.

DISTRICT 6

WRATH

When Wrath is in control of District 6 the mood of the district is competitive at best but frequently aggressive at worst and the temperature is always sweltering. People in the District of 6 are constantly at odds with one another, always trying to outdo one another. There are massive arenas dedicated to competitive sports and combat, from soccer to laser tag to sword fights. These sports can include things from your character's canon assuming it's something that a variety of alien species would be able to pick up and run with. There may be some minor changes to these sports as you'd assume there would be if they were learned and played by people who had never heard of them before they were introduced.

In addition to the competitive options there are also multiple weapon shops to be found when Wrath is in control. None of these are on the level of destruction of the city but they're well-made and can be taken into the Amplitheater - although their appearance changes to suit whatever the scene is within. These weapons also cost a pretty credit so characters may need to save up a bit in order to afford them.

So long as it fits the theme and vibe of the District players are free to make up businesses, attractions, or notable (player-started) groups. To submit for District 6 locations comment here.

For Wrath that comprises two groups.

COMBATANTS: A group of Wrath devotees that focuses on constant competition. They focus on violent or dangerous sports and combat and frequently challenge anyone who passes through District 6 to competition. Loss of limb and life is entirely possible but it is also possible to simply come out mildly injured - or not injured at all if you're very skilled or lucky. When not competing the Combatants will generally place bets on whatever match they're viewing - or they're off training. Strict Combatants will tattoo a tally mark onto their skin (or the equivalent thereof) whenever they score a victory. When Patience is in control of District 6 Combatants will generally hire themselves out at other Districts, looking down on the relatively less thrill-seeking and dangerous version of District 6.

BLOOD-DRINKERS: A group of Wrath devotees whose main focus is bloodshed and then, well. Drinking that blood. They are not (all) vampires but they do believe they can become stronger when they take a sip of blood that was shed in their victory. They also believe they will become weaker if their opponents drink their blood if they have lost. They're usually at violent odds with the Combatants who think this is anywhere from stupid to disgusting and who are admittedly at odds with most people. Blood-Drinkers tend to go underground when Patience is in control.

PATIENCE

When Patience is in control of District 6 it is a much calmer place than it is when under the sway of Wrath and the temperature is always perfect for every character that walks inside it - even if that perfect temperature is different from what everyone else is feeling. While there are still sports arenas the sports all almost all instead cooperative or slower-paced and less violent. They're quite big on golf, actually, to the utter disgust of the more strict Wrath devotees. There's also ice-skating, gymnastics, dance...all things that you don't shed anyone else's blood in.

In addition to the athletic offerings District 6 offers a variety of gardens zen and otherwise and an endless selection of tea shops and cafes. Food offerings are the kind that take a rather long time to cook at sit down restaurants, with nearly all street food vanishing when Patience is in control.

MEDIATORS: A group of Patience devotees who dedicate themselves to solving conflicts. They encourage compromise and meditation and regularly travel around the city of 7 preaching Patience and calm. Regardless of whether or not Patience or Wrath is in control the actions of the Mediators remains the same. They do act as referees for matches when Wrath is in control as they are considered to be fair and without prejudice in the matter of judging competitions. To become an official Mediator citizens are required to go through training and several tests but they are well respected in almost every district after that point.

BREWERS: A group of Patience devotees who dedicate themselves to the art of brewing tea, coffee, or other beverages. They focus on temperature-based magic and technology in order to pursue the perfect cup of their beverage of choice no matter how long that pursuit might take. They are frequently trying different blends and recipes and trying to get others to try their experiments. As with any new drink these range from quite good to horrifyingly bad...but they are always the perfect temperature. When Wrath is in control Brewers will simply peddle their wares at the Combatant competitions without seeming to care about the changes in their district.

DISTRICT 7

SLOTH

When Sloth is in control there is eternal night in the 7th District of 7. The simulated moon changes phases almost randomly and the projected constellations shift and shimmer over the real ones visible through the dome. Holographic purple butterflies flit across the entire district, sometimes through walls and windows and occasionally flickering in or out of existence. Throughout the district there are various nap pods to be found in different styles. Most are singles or doubles but some can fit larger groups.

One of the more unique features of District 7 is the electric lazy river that serves as the major street(s) of District 7. It isn't true water (although the river of 7 does cut through District 7) but instead a sort of holographic, shifting purple energy. Hover rafts are the common mode of transportation on this electric river and in addition to rentable or buyable personal use crafts there are shops and eateries to be found floating on the electric river. Most of these stores do not have regular hours or location schedules and instead open according to the owner's whims - except for the traveling shops that are run by those who follow Diligence and keep to stricter schedules, though most Diligence devotees shift Districts when Sloth is in control. There are frequent river-traffic jams that no one bothers to do anything about.

So long as it fits the theme and vibe of the District players are free to make up businesses, attractions, or notable (player-started) groups. To submit for District 7 locations comment here.

PEOPLE TO KNOW

While many citizens of District 7 live out their day to day lives in an ordinary fashion and only take heed of the Amplitheater and the Vices and Virtues during the Soul-Weighing ceremonies or when they require more credits, there are those who are more strongly devoted to their Vice or Virtue. For Sloth that comprises two groups.

NAP PEDDLERS: A group of Sloth devotees mainly made up of cat people and actual cats although anyone is welcome to join. Whether Sloth or Diligence is in control the Nap Peddlers can be found trying to entice people to sleep and therefore commit acts of sloth. It isn't unusual for them to give away free pillows and blankets. When Diligence is in control Nap Peddlers are more "underground" and in the absence of nap pods they run underground "nap cafes" that usually front as cat cafes or something else. There people can sleep and otherwise avoid all responsibilities.

DREAMVOTEES: A group of Sloth devotees whose main focus is dream interpretation and dream-walking. They revere the holographic butterflies that spawn whenever Sloth is in power and believe these butterflies can traverse both reality, dreams, and other universes. Many claim that before they woke up in 7 they saw a purple butterfly and followed it only to find themselves in the Amplitheater. Dreamvotees highly value dreams and those who have shops and services in District 7 will accept retellings of dreams as a form of currency - though that doesn't go nearly so far as actually selling your dreams. Sold dreams must be true and will be immediately forgotten by characters once the Dreamvotees eat the dreams. Solid dreams take on the form of the holographic butterflies. The Dreamvotee market becomes a black market whenever Diligence is in control and they are harder to track down and more wary about who they buy from or sell to.

DILIGENCE

When Diligence is in control there are day and night cycles on the 7th District of 7 but the days are twice as long as the nights. After all, the truly Diligent work until the last speck of daylight has faded away. This does put the District somewhat out of sync with the rhythms of the rest of 7, but devotees of Diligence barely pay that any heed.

Perhaps suiting the strange hours and cycle of long days and short nights, shadows inside District 7 behave strangely when Diligence is in control. Occasionally they will slip free of their owners and move independently, a pantomime of work played out on the streets and walls of District 7. These shadows can affect the actions of their owner at times or may be (semi?) permanently lost if citizens aren't careful.

Gone are the butterflies and nap pods of Sloth. In Diligence's District 7 there isn't any wasted time or buildings. Every building has a function and purpose and loitering and wandering aimlessly are strictly prohibited by the robotic members of the District 7 workforce. Entertainment is nowhere to be found but there are many more shops and services offered, all on perfect clockwork schedule.

The electric lazy river that serves as the major street(s) of District 7 is a much more functional and less lazy service under the control of Diligence. There are various control craft that direct traffic and ensure everyone is moving according to schedule and plan. Deliveries are made efficiently and transportation is easily among the fastest across the entire city.

For Diligence that comprises two groups.

SCHEDULEBOTS: A group of Diligence devotees that are mainly robots although they will allow any citizen of 7 who is willing to undergo their strict training to join their number. The Schedulebots make certain that 7 under the influence of Diligence runs perfectly on time and keep late working hours that many are encouraged to keep up with. Regardless of whether the Vice or Virtue of 7 is in control Schedulebots can be found throughout the city of 7 offering to toil for the citizens of the 7 districts for free. It isn't unusual to see a Schedulebot running errands at any location or hour preforming endless acts of Diligence in service of their Virtue.

SHADOWMEN: A group of Diligence devotees who have learnt to control shadows. The Shadowmen manipulate their own shadows to create an extra workforce and have been known to take lost shadows for their own, particularly from those who are deemed less than perfectly diligent. Sometimes these shadows are less lost and more taken. A shadow that is consumed by one of the Shadowmen's shadows to grow their own workforce is lost forever, although a new shadow can be gained through an extreme act of Sloth or Diligence. Lose your shadow too many times, however, and you might find yourself drawn into the Shadowmen's workforce without intending to be there. When Sloth is in control the Shadowmen seem to all but vanish, with reports of lost and stolen shadows dwindling to the odd incident here or there rather than the daily incidents that happen during Diligence's reign.
